Default Diets make you fat!

It’s the old problem, summer’s here and we think we look a fright in our summer clothes, bulges were there should be smooth bare midriffs, cellulite where there should be toned gluts and thighs. Wobbles where there should be tanned and toned upper arms. Unflattering ‘beer babies’ slightly overhanging the waistband of those new shorts. So what do we do? A lot of us have, over the years traditionally reached for the diet book, be it Atkins, South Beach or less glamorously maybe the Cabbage or Grapefruit diet, most of us have dabbled with a guaranteed quick fix diet in the past, sure that if we could only stick to it we could be into an itsy bitsy teeny weenie polka dot bikini in a couple of weeks. Did it work? Well yes, some of the time and in the short term diets do work, working on the simple principle that if you put less calories into your body, than it needs for the energy you expend, whatever form those calories come in, you will lose weight. It is a well know and well tried formula. But wait, now we are told that dieting does not work and in the long term can lead not only to the regaining of the weight we have lost but to the addition of more unwanted pounds besides!

Recently I came across a really fascinating book and accompanying CD set prepared by Anne Thomson, a hypnotherapist – The ‘Diets Make You Fat Programme’. I met Anne a while ago and she was kind enough to lend me the course that she has developed, which, while I had it, I tried on two other people. I know that Anne will not mind me telling you that she has herself battled to reduce her weight and that she is now on the winning side, having developed her programme and practiced what she preached. There can surely be no better endorsement of a product than its use and proven results on its developer. In her summary Anne says:

‘As you know this is a completely new approach to losing weight. I haven’t mentioned what you should and shouldn’t eat. I am not talking about how much weight you need to lose or what the health implications are in being overweight. I want to get right away from the guilt and focusing on fat. Instead I want you to replace this with realistic and achievable goals, forgiveness of yourself and others, and a focus on the positive. It has long been accepted that in order to achieve success in any area, you need to keep positive, set goals and refocus when there are hiccups. For some unknown reason there philosophies have not been used in a structure way to help people achieve success in weight loss. In is my mission in life to change forever the way people think of weight loss. I want to help as many people as I possibly can to lose weight permanently and to be content and happy with their bodies.’

The course comes with an accompanying book and is supported by Anne and her website which is www.dietsmakeyoufat.co.uk

This, I think, could be a turning point in the way we look at the whole dieting dilemma. Given that losing weight can take its toll on heart muscle, yo-yo dieting, which has been so many peoples experience, could not be worse for your health.

Anne’s approach and her gentle encouragement and support through her excellent CD’s may the answer we have been looking for. It is not a quick fix, and that itsy bitsy bikini might have to stay in the drawer till next summer, but approached in the right way this could well, at last, represent an achievable long-term solution.
