Default Give honey for that night time cough!

We have all been there, that hacking cough that keeps you and your child awake most of the night! But I read recently that honey is about the best remedy to give child unable to sleep because of coughing. Apparently it comes out tops over other cough remedies. Just a single dose given 30 minutes before the child goes to bed can reduce the cough, according to researchers. They apparently tested several approaches on a group of 105 children who had suffered from persistent coughing at night caused by an infection in the upper respiratory tract. On the first evening they did nothing, on the second they gave the children one dose of buckwheat honey and, on the third, an over-the-counter cough remedy that contained honey.

Amazingly honey on its own out did the other two approaches in its positive effect, and in most cases the child – and the parents – got a good night’s sleep!

Hi,
Yes honey is one of the best home remedie for cough, but there is also some other home remedies which can be used for cough they are as follow :
1. Just drink tea made of ginger 3-4 times a day or just eat raw ginger, this will subside your cough.
2. Drinking red raspberry, honey suckle, or liquor ice tea with honey is helpful in treating cough in 2-3 days. This is one of the effective cough treatment.
3. Take 2 tablespoons of honey and mix it in one cup of orange juice and drink it. This is a good cough remedy.
4. Prepare a cough syrup from baked onion juice, comfrey tea, and honey. Drink it daily and your cough will subside.

Wow Jack! Those are great tips, I am going to try them out on the family who are all coughing and spluttering at this time! There are as many remedies as there are strains of cough and colds it seems but I really like the look of yours and I will tell you how the family respond to them.

Have a great Christmas!

Honey is always regarded as the most useful home remedies for cold and cough, 1 tbsp of zinger juice and 1 tbsp of honey when given to a child in night, it may clear the nasal passage as well as the throat of the child, and he can sleep without a problem in breathing.

Thanks for that tip Clenbut. But what is Zinger juice? I have not heard of that before but I would love to know what it is so that I can try it. I often suffer from a bit of a cough and I do take honey and lemon for it. Could that be Zinger juice - lemon juice. Anyway please do come back and tell me what it is. I would really love to find something that works for my cough.

I usually dissolve some honey in some hot water with lemon juice and something a bit stronger if the mood takes me!
