Healing is delayed if you are depressed.
It might seem strange to some but it seems that the state of mind you are in has a direct bearing on how quickly you recover from illness or injury. Or maybe it doesn't sound so strange, after all to take a holistic view, this would make perfect sence.
Studies now have definite proof that depressed people's wounds heal more slowly than wounds in a person with an optimistic outlook even to the extent that in a very depressed person’wounds might even worsen!
This has been the basis of study by a group from the University of Nottingham who investigated the speed at which ulcers present in the feet of over 90 diabetics resolved. They studied the patients over a 24-week period, and found that in patients with a ‘confrontational’ approach – where they wanted to take control – the ulcers took far longer to heal. However, the ulcers in those patients who were depressed or anxious seemed not to undergo any healing at all.
