Only a man....! Actually I do sort of agree with what you say especially if a man is at work. However men have paternity leave these days and I am sure that they should shoulder their responsibilities along side the mother with a new baby. Maybe they could take it in turns to get up or get up together to enjoy their baby and share it's care. I know that it is difficult, the first few months can be hell, but the secret is not to panic and to know that it is all normal, normal to feel washed out and so tired you could cry, nap when the baby does and stick to your guns if you want to breast feed, don't be treated like a leper if you breast feed in public, take a shawl to cover yourself and all will be well. There is a lot said about a woman's right to breast feed but consideration for other people who may not enjoy the sight, or may enjoy it too much, should be taken into account.

Default there is another option for you ladies wanting to sleep

having thought some more about this topic - i thought i would add a suggestion where mothers can purchase a breast pump and pre-extract that milk into prepared bottles for their lovely husbands to take care of and dispense through the night. This could be a good soluton to keep the hubbies busy and the mothers well rested to get through the day!! on the other hand, i believe that some mothers have problems breastfeeding where the milk supply is just not adequate - what is the solution for that??

I think you will find that if the breast milk supply is not adequate they have to give up and that is the worry of a lot of new mums because unlike a bottle there is no way of knowing how much your baby has taken and the first you may know that the baby not getting enough is the fact that it is not gaining weight. All eventualities should be able to be handled by the health visitor or midwife though. Especially with a first baby, it can be a very worrying time.

Default Motilium - Domperidone

My understanding is that there is medication called Domperidone/Motilium which can enhance Breast Milk production - this could be another good option. i will try and find out more about this. Is there anybody out there who already has experience with this?

There is an excellent site all about breast feeding called asklenore.info which has the following advice about agents that stimulate milk production:

Domperidone (Motilium) is a drug that has, as a side effect, stimulating or increasing milk production, probably by increasing prolactin production by the pituitary gland. Prolactin is the hormone that stimulates the cells in the mother's breast to produce milk. Domperidone increases prolactin secretion indirectly, by interfering with the action of dopamine, whose action is to decrease the secretion of prolactin by the pituitary gland. Domperidone is generally used for disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (gut) and has not been released in Canada for use as a stimulant for milk production. This does not mean that it cannot be prescribed for this reason, but rather that the manufacturer does not back its use for increasing milk production. However, there are several studies that show that it works to increase milk production and that it is safe.
