I agree with you Amo, it can be very confusing, although if you are thinking about some contraception you doctor is a very good place to start, as he or she would know your medical history and any reason why you might not be suitable for one of the contraceptive methods. As I starter however here is a rough guide to the pros and cons of the contraceptive pill:
Pros:
Very effective against pregnancy if used correctly
Makes menstrual periods more regular and lighter
Decreases menstrual cramps and acne
Makes you less likely to get ovarian and uterine cancer, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cysts, and anaemia
Doesn\'t interrupt lovemaking
Cons
Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections
The cost is self funding may be a concern.
Needing to remember to take your pill every day at the same time
Can\'t be used by women with certain medical problems or by women taking certain medications (that is where your doctor\'s advice is vital)
The pill can occasionally cause side effects such as nausea, increased appetite, headaches, and, very rarely, blood clots
It should always only be taken on prescription
Use of a condoms to lower the risk of STDs takes away the spontaneity of this method.
