That sound horrible! What is it that makes your nose bleed so regularly? What does your doctor say? I know that although nosebleeds can look really frightening, the blood loss is usually not that much, but still if you don't know when it is going to happen it must be quite difficult for you.

I know when I was in my 20's I had a nosebleed that went on for 24 hours. Eventually the ENT team in the hospital where I worked cauterised my ethmoid artery which had apparently sprung a leak after being weakened with a cold I had had!

I have heard that things that are too hot or cold can have an effect on nosebleeds. I once had one that went on for 24 hours and had to be corrected surgically but normally it is not as bad as that. I think tilting your head back can help to stop the blood but if it is persistent it just flows down your throat instead! Horrid! It really is essential that you see a doctor if the nose bleed keeps happening or is prolonged.

This type of Nosebleed is more common in the elderly and is often due to high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, daily aspirin use or bleeding disorders. Usually, the older the patient, the more serious the nosebleed. You'll need to get medical attention if a nosebleed goes on for more than 20 minutes or if it occurs after an injury (such as a punch in the face), especially if you think you may have a broken nose.

Very good advice, I am glad you brought up the point of the taking of aspirin and another drug is Warfarin, medication used for thinning the blood to ward off strokes and heart attacks, which they do very well, the only trouble is if there is a bleed from somewhere else, like the nose, it takes longer for the blood to clot and the nose bleed to stop. As you said, it is very important, as with any u unusual or persistent problem to do with our bodies, that we do not allow them to go on too long, and go and see the doctor promptly.
