I agree with you Peggy and in the UK there are several pharmacies who will be happy to take your blood sugar reading for you, as a first step. That might be a way to tackle any reluctance to go to the doctor and the pharmacist will of course be able to tell you a lot about the condition. My old granny used to say that nothing is so frightening once you know all about it, and this is very true in the case of diabetes.
