Default Do you think a swim in Dead Sea water can reduce blood sugar?

Hi, My name is Olga and I manage this facebook group http://www.facebook.com/VoteDeadSea .
I always look for some interesting facts about the place. This time I found a research conducted by the Ben Gurion Univ. They claim that a swim in the Dead Sea water effects the blood sugar - very interesting foundings, but for now it's for type2 only.
I hope they will have enoght funds for a type1 research, because my mom has it for years. She visits the Dead sea at least once a year, but she never told me that there is a big difference in her blood sugar after a swim in the Dead sea.
You can read more details about the research here: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=272787479398846

What do you think, is it true or it just gives false hope to people?

I have not heard that one before and I trying to think how swimming in that sea with it's high mineral and salt content cod help. Blood sugar goes up and down all the time and I wonder if being in a 'healthy' place might
make people a bit more health conscious when they are there? I would love to know more!

Interesting idea. Not wishing to be flippant but surely the extra effort that it takes to swim in the Dead Sea would have an effect on blood sugars. If we all did more exercise after fuelling our bodies and use the energy in the blood and muscles the blood sugars will find their natural balance. I was able to come off Metformin after following a not to strenuous exercise plan, and of course eating the right things.

Yes it is true that swimming is a great form of exercise as it is non weight bearing so that even people with joint problems or any restriction in movement can swim in some way or enjoy the water for some water therapy or even aqua aerobics. Water to hydrotherapy as it is called is used a lot for medicinal reasons and is great too for exercising in a gentle but effective way.
