Thanks for adding that Kelly! My husband has type 2 diabetes and it is a worry for us as he also has lymphoedema due to having had a tumour removed from his leg when he was young. This has made his lower leg on the operated side pretty bad and full of veins and he has to wear a support stocking now to try to contain the problem. It is a worry and he does try to abide by the rules but he finds it a bit difficult in the summer to be wearing a surgical stocking for his leg as he likes to go around in shorts! Still there is no doubting the misery of leg ulcers in diabetics so it is wort it for him to do that I am sure. Thanks for the link again, I will be having a good read of it.

Diabetes can give rise to a lot of other problems with almost every organ in the body. People who suffer from diabetes are subject to all manner of other complaints. Eye disease is one and kidney failure another. Heart problems are often present and circulation problems can lead them to have to have leg amputations. The problem is that it affects the circulation and that leads to the other problems. I should say though that these problems are present only when the diabetes is uncontrolled or very severe.

I have type 2 and freak out at the suggestion I could lose limbs or go blind in later life. I have some varicose veins on one leg coupled with lymphdoema. I look at my leg sometimes and wonder if I will lose it to ulcers etc. I hope not, but who can tell. I use compression bandages on my leg, but sometimes this makes me feel quite sick. Any thoughts anyone?

Sorry to hear about that Paddy. I take it that the lymph oedema is not connected to the diabetes as such although I can see why you are worried about anything on the leg which can in diabetes be prone to diabetic ulcers. It sounds as though you have a healthy respect for the condition and are not just taking the 'I'll be Ok ' attitude, I am sure that you will be fine.
