Wise words Duncan, and welcome. It is true that the simple answer is usually the best, and anything that occurs naturally in life such as water, fruit and veg is the best for us. The secret for a long life is certainly to take care of our bodies, after all there is only so much that medicine can do if we persist in abusing the organs were have by smoking or drinking excessively, or eating unhealthy diets.

I was talking to someone recently who said the same thing about skin care, the simple is the best, all the lotions and potions have made us lose our way with what our skin really needs. I guess the same is true of our bodies.

Your message is a simple one but is very very true!

Yes you are right Alenjacks, especially if older people find to difficult to eat the full range of foods that they need to get the right nutrients, supplements can make all the difference. Obviously it is very important that older people do keep up a healthy balanced diet and at this winter time it is always good to pop in and see any older people who live locally so that you can find out if they have been able to get out and do shopping for instance.

I think we have lost this community spirit to some extent but where older people are concerned in a harsh winter, the intervention of the neighbour can be the difference between life and death!
