How you can live into your 90's
Well, I expect you know what I am going to say already, but still hear me out, this is the information I try to live by, although I don't always manage it!
Don’t smoke. Don’t become obese or diabetic. Keep your blood pressure under control. And exercise regularly, about two to four times weekly.
Do all the above and you’ll have a more than 50% chance of living to be over 90 according to findings of a 25-year-long study from Harvard University’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
In the early 1980s, the researchers began following a group of 2,357 men who at the time were in their early 70s. Of this group an impressive forty-one percent lived to be 90 and older.
Those men who, in their early 70s, did not smoke, were not overweight, or hypertensive and did not have diabetes and who took regular exercise had a 54% chance of living at least another 20 years.
But conversely, men in their early 70s who smoked, were significantly overweight, had high blood pressure and diabetes, and who did no exercise, had only a 4% likelihood of reaching the age of 90.
That is all very well I hear you say, but what is the point of living longer if you can barely do anything. Well, the men with the healthier habits along with living longer enjoyed a much better quality of life. Compared to men with unhealthy habits, they functioned better both physically and mentally. In fact of the long lived group in the study, 70% rated their late-life health as very good or even excellent.
