Default Coffee and Tea and your health!

Most of us like a cup of tea or coffee, I cannot start the day without my coffee, and I know I am not alone. But I decided to see what the medical world has to say about it and the scientific evidence suggests that coffee has some health benefits.(Yipee) New research indicates that coffee drinkers may be less likely to be hospitalized for heart rhythm disturbances. Coffee consumption has also been linked to decreased risk of Parkinson’s disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Coffee, both caffeinated and decaffeinated, does contain ingredients that may raise LDL cholesterol, but brewing coffee with paper filters tends to reduce this cholesterol-raising effect.

Black tea and green tea, caffeinated as well as decaffeinated, contain ingredients that have many health benefits, such as reduced risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and gum disease.

Caffeine itself has no nutritional value and for most people is mildly addictive. For some, chronic use has side effects such as restlessness, insomnia, and panic attacks. Caffeine may also stimulate the production of stomach acids; increase eye pressure (it is therefore discouraged for those with glaucoma); and interact with a variety of medications (for example, caffeine amplifies the effect of some asthma medications.

Phew, who knew what was lurking in that cup!?

Default Coffee and Tea and your health!

Yes You are right .But Coffee can be negative to our health. As Coffee is rich in antioxidants like chlorogenic acid and melanoidins. Antioxidants help prevent oxidation, a process that causes damage to cells and contributes to aging.Coffee drinking may protect against liver cirrhosis, especially alcoholic cirrhosis.s.Coffee negatively affects the blood vessel tone and function.Coffee can cause rapid or irregular heartbeats (cardiac arrhythmia's).A cup of coffee can trigger the heartburn.

Interesting post Jack! I recently had a really bad bout of the flu and the first thing that I could not stomach was coffee. When I tried to drink a cup I threw it all back up again! I think that is very telling in that our bodies seem to know what is good for us!

I do love a coffee though and I am not alone apparently with the world full of Starbucks and Costa's! It figures that something so nice should be bad for us I suppose, everything that is nice usually is!

Depressing though it may be I think that not having coffee has been good for me although It is a Little difficult to tell when you are in the depths of flu!!

You are partly correct. Coffee is less likely to have adverse effect than tea. But yes, coffee can trigger heartburn

Hi Eric, that was smoothing that I did not know that it could cause heartburn but then I suppose that it is quite a toxic substance especially some of the more strong and acidic types of coffee. I love coffee but I try not to have it too much and try really to limit myself to one cup each day in the morning and then nothing more after that. Quite apart from anything else it makes me pee too much!
