Default Hemorrhoids

I am recovering from hemorrhoid surgery this week. Has anyone else had problems with hemorrhoids and riding bikes. My doctor said it was pretty common for bikers to get hemorrhoids because of the pressure of sitting on the bike seats.

Has anyone else had problems with this? Don't be bashful, I know this is an embarrassing subject. It doesn't need to be.

Hi there Smith Miller

You are right it is a touchy subject and I hope that you are feeling a lot better now that you have had your surgery. I have looked into it a bit and I found this post in:

http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?t=62098

It reads like this:

I've searched the forums, but I guess nobody has been brave enough to bring this up before, so what the hell, I'll bring it up myself. I'm sure I'll be the butt of your jokes (pun intended).

Don't read the following if you have any bit of a weak stomach.

I developed an external hemorrhoid last week that has been persistent. I raced yesterday, which seems to have irritated it enough that it started to bleed. Went to the doc today, and got all the meds, etc. to hopefully fully treat it and get rid of the sucker.

So, I know what caused it, how to treat it, but my question relates to riding. The doctor has said to give myself a week off, but as I'm sure others can relate, I don't really want to lay off the riding for that long, especially since it's not overly bothersome when riding.

Given that my doctor doesn't understand my obsession with biking, I'm wondering if others that have experienced this problem can give me a more realistic estimate on how long I should lay off biking? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to admit it on the open board. After my "examination" by the doctor, I feel I have nothing more to hide !

Thanks!

Chris

Smile Yes I was suffering from this problem.....

But I had opt for operation It get cured by homeopath so try for
this therapy becoz after surgery still there is risk this problem
arises again so try to eradicate it. first try to avoid sitting on bike
for more time and keep your diet healthy use fruits and vegetables
in regular diet. Eat fig in the morning with empty stomach after soaking
it over the whole night.......

Hi There

I am sorry to hear that you have had so much trouble with this problem, but the advice that you give is great for anyone going through the same problems, thanks for sharing that with us. Another thing that is good for keep stool regular and soft so that you lessen the chance of 'piles' is to drink plenty of water. That is very good for keeping everything moving.

Constipation is often caused by not having enough moisture or fibre in the diet which makes the stools hard and difficult to pass ending up with straining and the development of piles. Fruit and veg, is, as you point out, another must have in the diet.

Yea bikers are difinately more common to get hemorrhoids than other people.
One good thing to do tho is to make sure you ride around in a good plain field with no rocks or hard dirt that will make your bike jump and down.
Also make sure you have a good soft seat
