Salt may not be to blame for high blood pressure!
I read this headline with great glee. I love salt although I do try to limit it in what I eat. But no, it looks like, reducing salt in your diet will probably be of no helping in decreasing your risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack. The long held belief that salt was a major contributing factor to raising blood pressure is now being revisited by researchers.
It was researchers from Copenhagen University who took it upon themselves to reanalyse 58 studies that had been carried out over a 30 year period up to 1997. Their findings were that overall, what they discovered did not support a general recommendation that reducing sodium intake would significantly reduce the risk of high blood pressure stroke and heart attack. They did add though, that reducing salt in the diet may be used as a supplementary treatment in hypertension.
They say if you wait long enough everything will come full circle!
