Basically a myocardial infarction (MI) is a heart attack. There are a lot of details about that in the cardiology section of this site and I believe in an article that is also on the site. Basically it is what happens when the blood supply is interrupted or stopped causing the heart muscle to be starved of blood and then stop. The symptoms are a crushing pain in the chest, in the side of the neck and the left arm (normally). The advice is that if someone appears to be having a heart attack they should be give soluble aspirin to try and dissolve the clot while help is summoned.
