A stroke is the term used to signify a blockage of an artery or arteriole that feeds oxygenated blood to the brain. It can also be caused by an injury or an artery or arteriole in the brain that has burst. It does not necessarily have anything to do with your heart. The same mechanism that causes a stroke can result in a blocked artery (or arteries) any where in the cardiovascular system.
A "heart attack" can be caused by a blocked artery that feeds blood to the heart muscle. The term "heart attack" is a designation commonly used for nearly any malfunction of the heart. In some cases it has nothing to do with blocked arteries but is an electrical conduction problem, a valve deterioration or physical defect such as an enlarged left ventricle.
